The Oyster River Youth Association and Zebra Crossings share a similar mission in providing recreational programs to young people. The programs offered by these 501(c)3 nonprofits are diverse and often rely on volunteers to assist in operating them.

Recreational programs offered by the Oyster River Youth Association to the youth of Durham, Lee, and Madbury provide each child an equal opportunity to participate, regardless of ability. Programs are offered year-round and include basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, baseball, football, soccer, field hockey, track and field, volleyball, tennis, ultimate frisbee and dance. Zebra Crossings offers programs for children with chronic health conditions as well as support for their families. In 2009, Zebra Crossings set out to change the lives of these children by becoming the first organization in the region to provide year-round, medically-supervised programs. Programs offered include monthly activities, day camps, and overnight retreats. Read more about ZC.
