June 2019 – Lauriane Lebrun, Marketing & Communications Coordinator

The Lexian E-News team is pleased to kick-off our new Board Member Spotlight feature by introducing N. Jane Seekamp, Mental Health Special Interest Section (SIS) Co-Chair of the New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Association

Jane, who works as a psychiatric occupational therapist, became involved with the NHOTA Board when she was approached by a board member.  They “suggested I would be a good fit for the position,” Jane says.  “And now I have been there for more years than I can count.”

Today, Jane’s role as an SIS Chair involves providing 2-hour educational presentations for NHOTA members and other interested OTs.  “I’ve done this without—and now, happily, with—Lexian support, which has saved me having to reinvent the wheel each time I have a presentation.  They also set up marketing, including blast emails to all members, which has increased attendance to over double pre-Lexian numbers.”

On being part of a nonprofit’s volunteer board, Jane calls it “a win-win opportunity,” both for the person volunteering and the organization itself.  “It is a great way to support your community, however big or small the community might be.  It is a place to use and hone skills.”  Jane adds that board membership offers “experiences and challenges that provide a sense of purpose and belonging.  It provides an environment that is intellectually, emotionally, and sometimes spiritually stimulating.”

Reflecting on the NHOTA Board’s collaboration with Lexian, Jane says she is grateful for the support of a team who “works very hard to meet the needs of the organization.  They consistently assess and modify what they can do to support our organizational goals.  They are available to assist within a day, and often sooner, for questions and requests.  They come with a wealth of experience working with nonprofits, and readily share that experience and adapt it to our organization.  I think Lexian has helped the NHOTA Board to develop a business model that makes us more efficient and productive, and better able to meet our goals.”
