The Lexian E-News team is pleased to continue our Board Member Spotlight series by introducing Chris Lemelin, Executive Director of McGregor Memorial EMS!
Chris is an AEMT and RN. He began working with McGregor as a volunteer in 2002, when he was a University of New Hampshire undergraduate student. “Through McGregor, I found a love of medicine,” Chris says. “It seemed to be the perfect intersection between the art of helping people and the science of medicine.”
These days, Chris says his favorite part of being involved with McGregor “is working with our nearly 50 volunteers and watching them grow in the medical profession. Their dedication and commitment to our patients is inspiring.”
For anyone considering joining a nonprofit’s volunteer board, Chris’ advice is to “find an organization aligned with your passions that has clear expectations for its volunteers. Many nonprofits are like McGregor, with more ideas and ambitions than resources to execute them. The fun part of volunteering can be finding that perfect niche where you are fitting into the organization’s mission while doing what you love.”
Regarding McGregor’s relationship with Lexian, Chris says it was initially a struggle to “step back from the details” of the organization’s accounting. “But as I came to realize how capable Laurie was, it became easier. Lexian’s reliable, monthly closeout of our books has freed up my time significantly, allowing me to focus on the big picture. Utilizing an outside agency provides additional controls for McGregor, which helps to ensure that we are maintaining the highest level of financial control. Lexian has been a true pleasure to work with.”
